Has anybody been to the Russian lately?  What are the water levels like at this time and any thoughts what the river will most likely looks like on opening day this year.

Alaska Joe, walked the Russian this afternoon.  The rivers looking good.  Lots of snow pack up in the hills but this winter, very little below 1000 feet in which Cooper Landing sits at about 500 feet.  So far, Mother Nature is balancing out the water levels as in years past.  Water level on the Kenai River started rising several weeks early but has since moved closer to historic levels, even with the mild winter.  My guess is that the Russian River as per a normal opener should run at about 19 inches at the fish ladder which keeps the Sockeye stacked up below and makes it difficult for the Sockeye to move up past the falls.  So long as ADFG leaves the fish ladder closed for an extended period of time the fish will continue to stack up making for easy limits.  Opening day which is a Thursday this year should be awesome!![smile]
